Martin who owns the photos says that in 1963 their telephone number was still a single digit ‘5’. That Abingdon was the last (as usual) Manual Telephone Exchange in the country this occurred on Thursday 26th June 1975, until then you asked the operator to place your call. The Manual Telephone Exchange was behind the Old Post Office the building is still there but is being renovated along with recently closed Post Office to become apparently a new Wetherspoons Pub.
