Abingdon 1556 Bounday Walk Route

Distance about 3 miles, but you are never far from the centre
A Town Map would be advisable
There are yearly official Ceremonial Boundary Walks
but this is the route followed
Start: Market Place
East St Helens to St Helens Wharf
Back to St Helens via Mill Lane
At edge of Church Yard, West St Helens follow sign "Ock Valley Walk" (Easy to miss!)
Follow Ock Valley Walk to Drayton Rd
Cross the bridge back towards Ock St
Cross Ock St at Double Mini Roundabout to Spring Rd
Follow Spring Rd to Faringdon Rd
(or cheat by cutting through delightful Albert Park)
At Faringdon Rd turn right until you get to the Bath St Junction
Here turn LEFT (away from town)
Shortly turn Right along Boxhill Walk (a road) to the river Stert (a stream)
Now a nice walk through woods back towards town
Emerge from the woods at the The Motte (a close)
The busy Vineyard (a road) should now be in view
At the Vineyard turn left (away from town)
At St Edmunds Church bear right down Radley Rd
After 200 metres or so turn right down Audlett Drive
Follow Audlett Drive until you see Crabtree Place on your right
At the end of Crabtree Place emerge in Barton Fields Nature Reserve
Cross the Millstream which you cross by a tricky wooden bridge
Turn left to cross the weir and visit Abingdon Lock (keep a close eye on small children here)
Recross the weir and follow the millstream back towards Abingdon
You arrive at Abbey Close which will take you back to Abbey Gate and the cente of town
You may now consider yourself an honourary Abingdonian!
